
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 8320 East 10th Street, on Monday, February 23rd, at 1 pm.
Charles Strickland, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 20. He was born December 19, 1922, in Indianapolis, to Charles and Mary (Tavenor) Strickland. He was a 1941 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1943 – 1945 in Europe, and again for a year in 1950 – 1951. He was a 1950 graduate of Rose Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir for 75 years.
He worked 33 years for Indianapolis Power and Light, retiring in 1985 as Chief Electrical Engineer. Among his volunteer activities were ushering for Indianapolis Symphony Coffee Concerts and testing kindergarten children with IPL Luminaries.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Graddy Strickland; four children: Tom (Mark) of Aurora, CO, Rob (Cindy) of Charlottesville VA, Beth Strickland of West Lafayette IN, and Amy (Joe) O’Connell of Indianapolis . There are two grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Strickland.
